Bach valgte to forskellige tekster:

And the joy of it will fetch you.
Its a pleasure that is bound to satisfy.
When you decide that John Sebastian

Where’er you walk : Semele : Ben Crawley

July 25, 2011

Libera's Ben Crawley singing "Where'er you walk" from Handel's "Semele". The aria is from the second act of the opera. Jupiter the king of the Gods is Semele's lover. Semele is discontented at her status as a mortal, disturbed by Semele's aspirations to immortality Jupiter decides to distract her, "I must with speed amuse her". Jupiter's aria is followed by a chorus of Zephyrs and loves singing in praise of Cupid "Now Love, that everlasting boy".  (Mark Ainsley's performance of  "I must with speed amuse her and "Now Love, that everlasting boy"  is the second video in the playlist below). The distraction that Jupiter comes up with is to despatch his winged Zephyrs to fetch Semele's sister (Ino) from Thebes and miraculously transform the place into Arcadia the delights of which he lauds in "Where'er you walk". Lyrics to "Where'er you walk"  below the video. Enjoy :-)
