The Norwegian born composer Ola Gjeilo was born in 1978 and moved to the USA in 2001 to study composition at New York's Juilliard School,  now based in Atlanta, Georgia, he spent 3 days at Central Washington University for a project in which he joined the the CWU Chamber choir in recording 3 of his compositions. It's a beautiful piece of music which benefitted greatly from Gjeilo's improvised accompaniment, but judge for yourself, the video, text, and translation to English are all below the fold. Enjoy :-).

On this video, Gjeilo adds an improvised accompaniment (in a one-take rendition) to his setting of the Ubi Caritas text -- which is published as an unaccompanied piece. Because of his view that improvising is a wonderful snapshot of artists "at that moment", the project was entitled "In the Moment".

Ubi caritas et amor

Latin English

Ubi caritas et amor, Deus ibi est.
Congregavit nos in unum Christi amor.
Exultemus et in ipso iucundemur.
Timeamus et amemus Deum vivum.
Et ex corde diligamus nos sincero.
Simul ergo cum in unum congregamur:
Ne nos mente dividamur caveamus.
Cessent iurgia maligna, cessent lites.
Et in medio nostri sit Christus Deus.
Amen.

Where charity and love are found, there is God.
The love of Christ has brought us together into one.
Let us rejoice and be glad in that love itself.
Let us fear and love the living God.
And let us love from a pure heart.
When we are gathered together in one place:
let us take care that we be not divided in mind.
May evil quarrelling cease, may litigation cease.
And may the God Christ be among us.
Amen.
