Christopher Tye (±1505 — before 15 March 1573): ‘Peterhouse’ Mass

Tye’s Peterhouse Mass survives only in the Peterhouse part-book it’s a ‘mean’ Mass – a Mass setting in which the ‘mean’ the alto or low treble voice is the highest voice. It’s quite reminiscent of Taverner’s works some of which are to be found in the same part-book. This recording by the Choir of Ely Cathedral, the cathedral in which Tye served as choir master, dating from 1999 is the first modern performance of the piece. Enjoy :-).
