Aksel Rykkvin – Eternal Source of Light Divine

I’ve posted a few times about this very talented Norwegian treble. He sings remarkably well this is a demonstration video from his debut CD in which he sings "Eternal source of light divine" the first movement of "Ode for the Birthday of Queen Anne",   Handel’s secular cantata in honour of Queen Anne’s birthday. I hope that listening to this will persuade you to visit Aksel’s website and to explore the videos on his YouTube channel.  The CD which you can buy on Amazon or Naxos is excellent – I bought the download which comes with full documentation from Hyperion’s website and can testify to the very high quality of the performances. It’s rare for somebody as young as Aksel to have the musical depth and maturity that baroque composers expected of their soloists. But have it he does and the result is some superb singing of some superb baroque music.  I’ve put the lyrics under the video. Enjoy :-).

George Frideric Handel (1685-1759): Eternal source of light divine (Movement 1 of Ode for the Birthday of Queen Anne ‘Eternal source of light divine’)

Eternal source of light divine
With double warmth thy beams display,
And with distinguish’d glory shine,
To add a lustre to this day.

Ambrose Philips (1674-1749)
