Spem in alium (Sarum plainchant)

The text for this respond at Matins in the Sarum liturgy is derived from Judith 6.19 and 8.19. There is no musical connection between this and any of the polyphonic settings of the text, so far as I know the performance below is the only recording of it ever made commercially. Enjoy :-).

Spem in alium (Sarum plainchant)

Spem in alium nunquam habui praeter in te,
Deus Israel, qui irasceris, et propitius eris,
et omnia peccata hominum in tribulatione dimittis.
Domine Deus, creator caeli et terrae,
respice humilitatem nostram.

Respond at Matins on Sundays

I have never placed my hope in any other than you,
O God of Israel, who can show both anger and graciousness, and absolve all the sins of suffering man. Lord God, creator of heaven and earth,
be mindful of our humiliation.

I Fagiolini conducted by Robert Hollingsworth.
